Our Story

CrownFit didn’t start as a business idea, it started as a solution for our family.

I adopted my girls as a solo parent-our family doesn’t fit traditional molds. Like many parents, I wanted my kids to explore sports, build confidence, and stay safe. I wanted them to feel included and represented in the sports and activities I enjoy.

When my girls were heading to skateboarding camp with freshly braided hair, we ran into a familiar issue: helmets weren’t designed with their hair in mind.

Helmets do not fit over their natural hair without sizing up. Braided hairstyles need to be flat enough to fit under a helmet. My hair type afforded me the privilege of never having to think about these details before participating in sports.

At the same time, our family includes neurodivergent members with sensory processing differences. We know firsthand how rough materials, pulling, and unpredictable sensations can make everyday gear overwhelming. Comfort isn’t a preference. Comfort is the difference between tolerating something and refusing it altogether.

CrownFit was created at the intersection of these experiences. By designing helmet liners that reduce friction, protect hair, and feel comfortable, we aim to make safety gear more inclusive for kids, adults, and families who have too often been overlooked.

CrownFit was created to make safety gear more inclusive.

When helmets feel better, people are more likely to wear them - and that’s better for everyone.
